Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is an American television anchor, journalist and commentator on NBC News based in Washington D.C. Growing up in New York City, Mitchell graduated with a BA degree in English literature at the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her professional career as a journalist at KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. She was then a reporter for the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV, (then WTOP), within Washington DC. She became a Washington general reporter for NBC News two years later. Since 1981, she began reporting on the White House. In 1988 she was promoted to chief congressional reporter. Then she was named chief White House correspondent in 1992 and was named chief foreign affairs reporter for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell was on the panel of the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell was a panelist during the presidential debates in 1988 between George Bush and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government for outstanding achievement in journalism. In 2004 in 2004, the Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award to recognize of her contribution to the protection of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell began reporting on at the White House in 1981-1988 for NBC News during Ronald Reagan's second term as president. Mitchell covered a wide range of interesting stories including the Iran-contra controversy and tax reform. Mitchell traveled with President Ronald Reagan in numerous visits to summits around the world and covered frequently.
